Hi Joe, Looks Good!!…What fabric process are you using? With the aluminum wings, and fiberglass cowl, Covering a Sonerai 1 is a 'breeze' when compared to other projects. I probably have enough 'scraps' from other projects to completely cover Beetlebomb's Fuselage and tail. The money is then in the liquids needed to seal the fabric, and build the weave for the paint job… Do you have a paint job/colors picked out yet? Don't forget about incorporating the race number into the paint design!…Ed

Hi Ed, Thanks for the encouraging words. I'm using Stewarts System glue, it's left over from my PA20 and works well once you get used to it. Also has no smell which is good when working at home. It's very easy to make a mess if you don't get the excess glue wiped off quickly (I've done that a few times). Now that most of my finish taping is done I learned that it works much better when you dilute the glue a bit with some water, soaks right into the fabric and wipes clean (they mention this trick in their training video). The paint scheme on the Sonerai is still undecided, that may not happen until after a few hours of flying. There will definitely be a spot reserved for the race number! I'm hoping to spread the enthusiasm once this airplane is flying again and I can show it off!
How are things in your hangar? Has anybody contacted you by phone or email about our little airplanes? Hopefully the interest will start to build some momentum when 2 or 3 racers get together at Oshkosh or Sun-n-Fun for a demonstration. The time is coming, let's keep moving forward!

Thanks for the progress report. I have no experience with that glue. Would be a learning process for me!! No one has contacted me in possibly a year with interest in Supervee. I don't know when Jeff will be back on flying status, so we are down to zero supervees flying as of today. I am looking at a slightly different career situation which could help me actually get back on the racers. I still need to sell some projects, to be able to move forward on the ones I really want to keep. I am traveling a lot in July, but will hopefully get back on Beetlebomb in August…. Once we have three airplanes flyable, it would be wise to make the commitment to get them together for promo photos, hopefully at a large fly in or show. Banners and free literature to hand out would help as well…Ed

I look back to re-read these three year old posts from July of 2012, and see that we were mighty optimistic as to how long it would be before we would be ready to fly and compete with our Supervees. I am reminded that we are all juggling life and trying to find a spare half hour to work in the shop. I told Val today that come fall, I am going to make a commitment to work on my project at least twice to three times a week…I need it…Mighty Optimistic…?…Maybe, but A goal must be set for anything to get done…. We need four to six prepared airplanes to hold a competition. Once we have a few gathered at one spot, today's internet will take care of getting the word out. The sights and sounds of VW powered Midget racers in a pit area setting will be contagious!!……Ed

I just found this site and was very excited until I read through a few full threads. It's like an emotional roller coaster in each one. This one especially so. I started out wanting to sell or trade my Teenie Two for a Sonerai I, even though I have a Sonerai II project. Then by the end the excitement seems to wane since I don't know if there will ever be an actual race scheduled.
Oddly, I'm still excited about the possibility but I think Ed is right, if there were three or four of these sitting somewhere on a ramp where some pictures could be taken and maybe even some "promotional" racing or training video's done, it would bolster a huge interest.
BTW, anyone want to trade their "racer" for a flying Teenie Two? Kind of kidding, kind of not.
I'd love an update on those of you building though.
Kenneth

If I read over all the posts again, yes, it would be discourging. We need to press on, and slowly get these airplanes flying….Read July 6, 2014 post I made above…'zero' currently flying supervees… Today, January of 2016, we now have THREE flying supervees…It is happening, just taking longer than expected. I would like to hold an organizational meeting in 2016…when, where, don't know yet….Ed

Dave, Oshkosh has to be on top of the list of places to meet…..Perhaps this year I can have a Supervee Forum. Have done them in the past…..In conjunction with the forum, at the end we can move into an organizational meeting…… What do the readers think?…Ed

I'm not sure if I can make Oshkosh this year. I'd love to go back since I've only been once. Once there is a day and place for the meeting I'll see what I can do to attend. That is if Sonerai II owners are allowed in!

I will be headlong into a major customer project during Sun N Fun, so I will not be there. I communicated with Jeff Lange yesterday, and I am going to go ahead and apply with EAA for a forum time Slot for Supervee Air Sports at Oshkosh this summer. In conjunction, I would like to make part of the forum a business meeting of sorts…Jeff will be helping with that...I had not planned to be at OSH this year, but will need to work at making it a reality…Yes, Sonerai 2 owners welcome!…Remember, if enough Sonerai 2 people want to get involved, I will make a competition class just for them….Already two of our race numbers are held by Sonerai 2 members….....Ed

I wasn't planning on going this year either, but if there is a meeting I will try to make it. I will probably make it a long weekend, because I can't take much time off of work.
