Since projects do take longer than thought (and it's always difficult to "keep at it") I want to issue a motivational challenge. I challenge myself to have the VWitt done by OSH, 2017. If anyone is closing in, keep at it and maybe we can have several planes there to further our sport. I will become intentionally "funemployed" in 3 weeks so MIGHT have a bit more time to work on my plane. I might also be willing to fly out and help others "get motivated" with a work weekend or something. We have no race meetings scheduled but we could have build weekends/get-togethers a few times a year until we do. Let's get out and do a little every day! Dave Kansas City

Great Dave, And I 'think' I can have Beetlebomb finished, flying, and at OSHKOSH Via Trailer by 2017. Jeff Lange has showed up every year with his Supervee Sonerai #64, so maybe I can wrangle permission to have a Supervee Air Sports 'row' of sorts…. Jeff and I were talking about getting with Eric Whyte, who puts on the Air Venture Cup Race, and he has 'ins' with the EAA show people, and we were at some point hoping to have a Demonstration Challenge competition at the beginning of the show one day. Even if that permission is not granted, we can still shoot for having a row of our supervees…..Great Challenge Dave, the Gauntlet has dropped!!!!….. As well, the idea of helping others is rooted in the philosophy of this organization….Not counting my two, I have four Supervee projects within a 3.5 hour drive of here….we all would benefit by helping each other….

My plan is to fly my S-II to Oshkosh 2017 as well. I had almost a whole weekend to work on my plane last weekend, and found myself a bit overwhelmed and confused as where to start, as I purchased a previously flying plane that has several things needing to be done to get it back flying. Unfortunately, I did not take any of these things apart, so naturally I'm somewhat unsure of how and what goes where. The previous owner is 7 hours away and my inventory doesn't seem to add up to the hardware and things missing. Now it is not a huge amount of things, just small stuff like hooking the instruments back up, finishing the hydraulic brake install, installing the new Aerocarb. I guess it is somewhat tough for me as I usually only get an hour maybe a week, and that time is usually spent trying to figure where to start. Would be great to go and help others and have some come here and help. I'll accept this challenge as well and I look forward to helping y'all so we can all have our own line of aircraft at Oshkosh 2017! Let the fun, learning, and comradery begin!!!

Jared, do you have a list of what you might need?…If you have a weekend day sometime, come on down and look thru my parts/hardware bins….there may be something here that you need to help you get airworthy…… So……Now that we have a challenge, we have a goal. to have 3 or 4 Supervees lined up together at OSH '17 is the goal…..Thanks Dave for suggesting this…..

Thanks Ed! Most of what I have noticed is missing is hardware, such as the bolts to hold the two parts of the brake calipers together and floorboard fasteners as well as various other odds and ends. A lot of other things are adel/DG clamps not attached but around random fuselage tubing, with nothing that looks to be out of place or required there. It's just a bit of confusion and time constraints having to figure out what size hardware to get, purchasing it and then seeing what actually goes there. I think it would be easier just to start from scratch. Lol I think we only have three more Saturdays to work, so hopefully I can make a trip down. Might just plan a cross-country flight down there!

On my previously flying project(300hrs) I found many similar tabs. Most I cut off - 18 at one time. My limited experience has always been, with a "once flying" project, several weeks of pulling anything off I could, looking inside, and ensuring things like brakes and linkages are all done correctly and are serviceable(it's several weeks because there is always something janked about them IMO). Even with an older engine, I would look in each cylinder, in each port to see valves when opened, check cam lift and naturally adjust the valves, retorque everything, and run compression. I also think context is key. Looking at a lot of pics of others planes will give you ideas of what needs to be there. AC43.13 and the Tony Bingelis books will steer you in the right way when checking others shortcuts. JMO, Dave P.S. That carb is great but keep heat off it. The Delrin sheet lining in the slide body can warp with heat(from external oil cooler, etc) and cause a stuck throttle.

Thanks y'all, I will definitely do that. One of the big parts of going to help others is to see what you might need to do on your own project, and as soon as they give us some time off here at work, I really hope to be able to do that. Like I said before, the major issue is only having about an hour a week to accomplish anything. I have a week break from school next week, so hopefully I'll be able to do more.

I have Tony's book "The Sport Plane Builder" as well as Kent Paser's book "Speed With Economy". Both are great and I have read Kent's book cover to cover twice, so many great ideas. I have really been wanting to concentrate on getting the carb installed and the engine running, but I'm really stuck on how I'm going to mount it. I dont want to take the easy way out and mount it sideways, against the recommended way, but I'm not sure it will fit at a 45 degree angle. I keep forgetting about mounting it in the updraft positiong, will try and remember to check that this weekend.

I worked on a Pietenpol and a Super Cub, and had out of town visitors…..But, NO supervee progress…(Other than the fact that Jack finished typing my rules package, and I go to the printer with it probably tomorrow!!)…ED

I finished my stab trim system. It weighs the same (or less) as the components I was able to remove (crossmember and the normally required trim washers).
Under 500 pounds or bust, baby!
