I'm using a Slick 4316 magneto and Champion REL37B plugs. Great Planes has an adapter to use automotive plugs with the shielded magneto wires. But, just looking at them, I don't think they'd clear the intakes, and plenum on my install.
1) Can I use the Tempest UREB37E plug instead of the Champions?
2) Has anyone come up with the correct spark plug socket for those plugs? 13/16" extra long deep socket. I bought one from Amazon. But only the overall length was extra long, not the grip. The plug still bottoms out in the socket before the grip reached the hex part of the plug.

Kenny, I have not gotten to that part of my engine yet but will have a similar mag/auto plug conversion. You might call GP about the clearance of the adapters. Maybe they will send you one as a trial fit piece. Sounds like you might need to make a custom socket by cutting and welding the hex to the end of another socket. A lathe and a tig is all one would need so shouldn't be too hard to find. Dave

Kenny, Revmaster sells a socket that is machined on the outside to get at the lower plugs. The problem is that the grip is no deeper than a standard spark plug socket. I am going to machine out 1/8" inside the socket to give me 1/4" of bite on the plugs....but am also looking for a socket designed to handle aviation plugs properly. The problem there is that I will need to machine the outside to reach my lower plugs. Another option is a very inexpensive plug tool you can buy. It is tubular and about 4" long. One end is shaped for 13/16" and the other for 3/4". You operate the tool by inserting a rod or screwdriver through holes in the side of the tube. If you put a nut on a 3/4" bolt you can use that on the backside of the tool (instead of the rod/screwdriver) to operate the tool with a normal torque wrench. I had one when I was racing motocross as a kid....many moons ago. www.amazon.com/Arnold-Extended-Spark-Wrench-Engines/dp/B013RK86FU/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1523723516&sr=1-1&keywords=13%2F16+and+5%2F8+spark+plug+toolAll the best, Chucker
