Howdy, I recently came across an add on barnstormers that really got me looking at the supervee. I have a taildragger Sonex that I purchased built but I have the desire to build something. I did purchase and build the Onex tail kit and do have some polyfiber experience. I still have all my tools and clecos and stuff from the onex tail kit. www.barnstormers.com/ad_detail.php?id=1464522&catid=19002I saw the above add on barnstormers and it looks like a real good start. Anyone have some thoughts ? Curry

Curry Price is good. Cheaper to move Might want to examine the workmanship. It may look like you are buying a lot of progress but there is much more to completion. Keep us posted. T Walker

Curry, It does look like a great start but as Tom says, and these guys have done it all, the build quality would need to be good. There have been a few once-flying Sonerai needing a good going through that have sold for not much more than that. I don’t doubt you could do it but for me to dump much into another’s project it would have to be very close by so I could go see it and think about it for a while. The seller might become a little more motivated if he sees you are a serious but yet a cautious buyer who has other options. Welcome aboard! Dave Kansas City

Thanks guys but it looks to be already gone. It looks like there is quite a few of these things around. I'll order the plans and news letters today to give me something to look at while waiting/shopping.
Question about the engine mount: Does the stock engine mount require a certain accessory case? Hapi, GP, Aerovee ??
Sorry if that's a dumb question but my Sonex has a Jabiru so I'm not VW familiar.

Curry, I can't help there but either Ed or Tom would know. Also, Ed seems to hear of and know when a lot of these planes are for sale. Dave

The S-1 plans I'm familiar with use the aerovee "X" casting that connects the VW engine case to the tubular motor mount. There were 2 variants, one without alternator and with alternator. Not sure about the Hapi or GP products.

Hi to all. I'm a new member also. Just purchased Sonerai I plans today. Plan to build a Onex to develop some build skills and as my confidence grows build the Sonerai I slowly and carefully. Looking to find resources that will provide guidance to new builders. I might tinker with racing, but more importantly I enjoy fast machines. Right now priority is take my time and build the Sonerai I right. Thank you for letting me join.
Regards, Jesse

Jesse, Welcome aboard. The EAA homebuilder videos and workshops are good info. I tend to be a little tougher on others work though mine is likely no better. I say that as many will point you to your local chapter for a “tech expert”. I haven’t had much in watching for those but have seen a lot of things that such an expert should have caught. We have many good guys but I suppose I just don’t work well with others. Do seek out a chapter if you haven’t already and get involved. We can help here but are not that active. In the trenches it’s always good to have someone to help buck rivets! The #1 advice is to build light from the get-go. You will get tons of opinions of how to improve a design but a little here and a little there, even with what sounds like a good logic, will lead to dissatisfaction in the end. The designer’s plans need no more and no less to be safe. Dave
