I have made friends with a bunch of model builders (small rubber-powered free flight jobs) flyingacesclub.com/ who have contest events for Goodyear/Formula 1/Formula V raceplane models. To assist them I have created a "Formula V raceplane photo history" and posted it on the Formula V website at www.formulav.com/FVcolors.pdf
I have also posted a 'peanut scale' (13 inch wingspan) model plan of a generic Sonerai-1 that can be decorated in the color scheme of any of the 20 Sonerai-1's that have participated in Formula V air races 1977-1999. It's at www.formulav.com/peanut.pdf
Here's a photo of a model of FV #20 "Sunbeam" built from this plan by Dick Gorman.
I have a plan for a peanut scale model for Wittman's V-Witt that I will be uploading soon to the Formula V website. BTW I plan to revamp the Formula V website in coming months.
I intend to add race history of each aircraft to the Formula V raceplane photo history document as time permits... I'm currently in the process of moving to Florida so it may be awhile... Jim

I have the peanut plans printed for Wittman’s V-Witt. I used to build a lot of rubber powered models and still have that workbench all cluttered. One thing I noticed is, just like on the full-sized plans, there is not much to go on for creating the firewall forward. Building from plans, rather than kits, was/is my preferred method. Will be great to see what you do with the site! Was unable to get my wings sprayed and fabric covered this fall due to an extended annual on the 172. Spring, come quickly! What part of Fla? There’s a lot I like about Fla but it’s a bit humid for my tastes. My sis in law is in Winterhaven and we find ourselves there a time or two each year. This coming Feb, in fact. Best, Dave

I have the Walt Mooney peanut scale 13" plan for the short wing V-Witt. This plan was published in Model Builder magazine back in the 1970's. I'm planning to build one with the red & yellow color scheme of "chasin' rainbows". Yeah, the entire nose section of the V-Witt is poorly documented, with no prefab parts available... Ed Fisher did a lot of work on mine. Cowling was mostly sheet aluminum with a fiberglas nose copied from the Woods Bros. FV racer. As for Florida, my only surviving family members are in Sarasota, and I'm currently looking at houses in Sun City Center, which is on the Gulf coast about 20 miles south of Tampa and 30 miles north of Sarasota. I anticipate my move there will take place in late spring or summer 2020.

Nice. I was fortunate that mine came with a motor mount and upper sheet metal. Redoing it all with the motor and extension mounted provided a datum and made fab not too bad. Keep us informed! Dave
