It appears that there will be no events in 2012, other than those who may participate in the Airventure Cup, Sportsman Class, in late July... It appears that the SARL is not recognizing 'Supervee' as a class. The two events at airports I was planning have been cancelled. I will continue to carry the torch and try to promote this, but with one flyable airplane, we cannot schedule events. I will publish a 'Supervee Update' newsletter in March, for those on the mailing list, But it would really be nice to see more interest, so there is something to talk about....... Thank you, Ed Fisher

Ed -
Have you talked with Mike at SARL? Personally I don't know the difference between Supervee and Sportsman, I bet Mike doesn't either. He's inclusive, not exclusive and may just need to know there's yet another class that needs to be added.

Thanks for the post...My last post may have been misleading or unclear, and was not intended to be that way........The 'Sportsman' division, or class, of SARL racing is for Corvair or VW powered homebuilts. Supervee is Strictly VW powered Homebuilts, with rules governing airframe and engine specs, not normally defined with Sportsman.....It is in essence a 'formula' class. I have sent e-mails to SARL in general, wishing to become a member, however, it appears that membership in SARL is only attainable by reserving a race number, I could be wrong. I was hoping to be on a mailing list of some sort, to be informed as to what is going on. To sum it up, A VW powered Bede 5 , or a stock KR-1 would be in the Sportsman class, but would not qualify as a Supervee, because of the retractable gear, and wing area requirements. Jeff Lange's Sonerai 1 #64 qualifies as a Sportsman racer, and a Supervee Racer.

Alright, Ed, I understand the difference now. As popularity grows, I don't see SARL frowning upon adding a restrictive class like Supervee. If it brings racers to the event, it's all good! SARL grew out of a Harmon Rocket only race just a few year ago. The part of the SARL website behind the password is just a contact list of current members with paid up dues and a link to purchase logo wear. For communications, SARL utilizes a Yahoo Group and you don't have to be a registered racer to take part: groups.yahoo.com/group/SARL-Racers/
