Jeff -
A questionnaire is mentioned in the newsletter, but I didn't see one. Is it elsewhere?

Its going out in the printed version. I will have to ask Ed if he wants it to be filled out if you are viewing online.

The questionnaire is only for the Snail Mail newsletter members., to see if they still want to receive the hard copy newsletter....Ed

Update, The questionnaire included with the hard copy newsletter was a disappointment. 50 newsletters sent out, 4 questionnairs returned as of May 3rd. I guess they no longer want a hard copy newsletter!!...It is uncertain where we will go from here.......Ed

I wonder what it was about air racing that people used to love to do and watch that is not present in our society today?

Jeff, I'm old enough to remember:
1. Freedom. There was no fear of being busted for some obscure federal, state, or local regulation violation. 2. Affordability. We did not have the current level of greed embraced by today's insurance conglomerates, and government's willingness to tax anything and everything its citizens enjoy (remember, permits, licenses, and registrations are just taxes in sheep's clothing). We are now being told what we have to buy for our own good. 3. The willingness of so many - and their overpopulated legal counsel - to file suit for any imagined loss, however slight. Even a successful defense would break most of us.
Fifteen years ago, we could have a friendly toilet paper cutting competition, or waterbombing a mark on the runway. Today, someone would make a phone call, and we'd in serious trouble. At last year's fly-in, one visiting pilot had a fit because our local sprayplane operator performed a planned low pass (water) spray demonstration over a beanfield 200 yards from anyone or anything.
In a word . . . . Funhaters.
Tom

Thanks, Tom.....I also have to look back at what we had in the Formula V days, that we don't have now.....Young people, willing to do something. Understandably, Wittman was the oldest, but most of us were in our 30's and maybe 40's...As I approach 60, '40' sounds pretty young....And today, there are all kinds of new electronic things to steal away our free time. (like the internet.....can be a great tool, but can gobble up hours) And, yes, the legal situation was much different in 1978 when FV had its first sanctioned race..........Ed

I do like the paper newsletter but I'm guessing an online version would be more cost effective and easier to distribute. I would like to offer some support to Supervee, if that is financial or otherwise. The topics should be brought back for discussion, please don't give up!

I am not giving up, I am just taking a breather from hard copy newsletters, while I start up the Sport Aviation Association again. I still have the Supervee Rules, the Race number list, roster, etc. (Need a race number for your new Sonerai?, give me a couple of your favorite numbers, and I will check to see if they are available) We WILL have Supervee competitions someday, but we need 3 or 4 flyable and ready airplanes and pilots before I go to airports to enquire. Ed Fisher Yes, definitely going to need a race # - How about 3, 15, or 27?

joeb...... #3, and #27, are not available, but #15 is.....Email me at raceairdesigns@hotmail.com and I will get your postal mailing address, etc., for your inclusion to my roster.....'Our' Race numbers do not reflect numbers assigned by the SARL, but I see no problem with you being #15, if racing in the Sportsman Class of SARL competition. There has only been 2 entries in Sportsman in past years, Jeff Lange, and Mark Langford....Ed F.
