I am going to reskin the Renegade's wing with wood. It had originally had 1/8" two ply glass skins. (I have just deleted half a page of explaining why)
I have 1/8" Mahogany 90° ply and 4mm marine grade "Oka" whatever stuff from Africa. A Tailwind builder from WI uses it and loves it. Does anyone here have any thoughts before I commit one way or another?

Lex, This may sound not very scientific, but 'whatever works on a Tailwind' would suit me fine. My #31 Racer had 1/16" mohog. ply for skin, and ribs on 9" spacing.. I felt it was a tad too thin, as it was wrinkled a bit in between ribs. I think 1/8" is too thick. On our Cassutt, we used a metric size, that measured about .070"....Because of the higher speeds, and G capability of the Cassutt, we glassed the wings with fine boat cloth, over the skins. Was light, strong, but a lot of sanding work.....Ed

Ed,
Thanks.
The Okhoume is the same 4mm that a well known, wave free wing, Tailwind builder swears by. I too will use a very light glass to cover, which ever way I go for ply. I have learned a couple of tricks to reduce some of the sanding over the years.
By the way, the Gee Bee Z and R's used 1/16" mahogany too for skins.

Lex.....Well then I would go with what is currently being used By Jim Clement. He built a beautiful Cassutt, and a ton of Beautiful Tailwinds......I drool at Oshkosh looking at the wings on his airplanes.....Ed
