I built an oil pump cover on which I can mount an oil filter. The filter sits directly under the prop. Detailed photos are in my gallery on Sonerai.net. Chucker Attachments:

Looks Good!!… I see you have done some 'lightening' on the case. every ounce helps…How close will the filter be to the back of the prop?..

Yes. Shaving ounces wherever I can find them...might even find a few just above my belt.
I don't know about a standard crank and hub. My Revmaster flange puts the prop a few inches away from the case. Measuring from the mating surface between the case and the oil pump, the entire assembly (26mm pump, cover, and filter) protrudes exactly 4 inches. I'm curious. If you can measure a standard VW crank and hub assembly, I would like to know if there is enough clearance for this filter.
Larger oil pumps have a thicker flange and will eat up more of the clearance.

I wouldnt thing you'd need a larger pump. My crank is cut for a magneto or I'd measure it for you. Dave

I don't have a standard VW crank and hub assay…I can measure the HAPI prop flange...

26mm is enough for me. My Revmaster came with a larger pump....but it was designed to manage a controllable pitch prop as well as lubricate the engine. I am sticking with my 26mm...but I just wanted to point out that someone using a larger pump will have less clearance between the filter and the prop.
Juergen, on Sonerai.net seems interested. He might measure and tell me if this fits under the standard crank and hub. I expect it will but just can't measure right now. When I get out to CA in a week I can measure my HAPI 1835cc engine.

Thanks, Ed.
Sounds as though this won't work without a prop extension of some sort. My pump cover and filter measure 3-3/4".
Does anyone have a Great Plains engine they can measure?

I know my HAPI engine needs a prop extension of probably 2" in length, to fit the supervee cowling, so, that might make the difference..

Did some more cutting and grinding today. Photo is too big for this forum...but I posted on my project thread on Sonerai.net. Made the cases match the HAPI accessory case.
