Welcome, Roger. Tell us more about the PIK-21…I was unaware of this design..Is the wing Wood? The airfoil looks to be something similar to Cassutt, or 64 series as used on the Sonerai…. What is the historical background of this design? Is it a fairly new design?……Ed Fisher

OOPS….I now see from your pictures that the machine is all-wood. Empty weight?….What C.C. VW engine will you use?…Ed

Hi Folks,
the PIK-21 is an all wood sports plane based on the formula V racers of yesteryear. The designer Kai Mellen wanted an A/C which was relatively easy to build, low weight, (too fit in the ultralight class) and still return a good performance on a small budget.
The one I am building is the 3rd one and will probably be the last one. Airframe No. 1 ist still flying strong in Finland and No 2 ground looped and is undergoing a rebuild for the last number of years. I am using a stock 1600 cc VW, 50 hp with the drive from the pulley end of the crank. Stromberg CD 150 carb and dual ignition. (only because the swiss and the british Associations wont allow single ignition.)
The length is approx. 5.3 m and the wingspan is also 5.4 m with a chord of 1.3 m. The rib profile is NACA 64212 with modification to the leading edge to reduce the stall speed. Empty weight is targeted at 200 – 210 kg, with the MTOW around 320 – 330 kg. It should have a Vne of approx. 140 kts with cruise around 90 – 120 kts. Vs1 is placarded at 45 kts. I hope this fuels the interest amongst you guys, if you have any questions please ask.
Roger

Folks, as an after thought, i would be interested in some drawings of the cassutt joystick and linkage arrangement if possible without having to pruchase a complete set.
Regards

I thought that looked like a 64 series airfoil.. I do not have a drawing of the Cassutt Control column….Try contacting the design owner , Andrew of Cassutt Sport Aircraft….. cassuttsportaircraft@outlook.com Tell him I sent ya', and that you would like to buy just a print of that sheet……Ed
