Kevin, Ed will chime in but there is a class specifically for S2s. At the present time, there don't appear to be any restrictions on engine size or subdivisions within the S2 class. Any safe, flyable plane that is VW based and meets the design specs can participate. The 6G +/- is about the only spec that might limit a host of designs from participating. I'm no expert but an S2 is a different bird than the S1 so what makes an S2 is the plans(longer cockpit, etc). Also read about the "S" mod as it will likely be required at some point and is a safety factor. We are still in the early stages and encouraging participation is more important to all of us than restrictions. If and when variations cause conflict or imbalance, class rules will be more enforced. Walk then run. We hope to have enough planes in at least displayable condition to have a type row at OSH in '17. Thereafter we hope to do some "display" or "demo" flights(races). With enough participants we can start meeting. Until then, flying racers might put up challenge runs on the honor system(GPS mapped courses that others could replicate and compare times). Also, join our SV Facebook page if you are on there. Dave Kansas City

Hi Kevin, Still getting caught up after being gone almost 3 weeks... Give me your postal mailing address and I can send you a rules package, and put you on the snail mail list for our newsletter.....Dave has answered most of your questions, but I add, In brief, the Sonerai 2 division would be for the stock fuselage size, I believe it is 24" wide, with the stock wing length, any variation of the sonerai 2 is allowed. Must be VW powered, any c.c., normally aspirated, direct drive fixed pitch in flight prop. What IS allowed is removal of front seat, modification to single seat type canopy, and other minor clean ups. Wing would need 'S' mod if we return to pylon racing someday..... We will probably go with the G loadings of +6, -4 for the single seat Sonerai or V-Witt, and with the strength numbers that John Monnett designed the '2' for...Ed

Hi Ed,
I have a question about the canopy height requirement. It calls for 34” from the center of the seat. Is that a pure vertical measurement from the geometric center of the seat bottom? The way I am expecting to install my canopy I can get 34” above the seat bottom if I measure from a point closer to the front edge of the seat bottom. From the absolute center I get a little less.

Chucker, I should have thought this over before responding....You are building a Sonerai 2, so there is no canopy restriction...The Sonera 2 rules are pretty bland right now....Basically, if you have a Sonerai 2 with any canopy style, as long as your engine is VW based, you conform to the rules.....

kyleb, message me with your postal mailing address. No committee was ever formed to scrutinize my rules, so they are still preliminary....ED
