I am hoping more people join this group, and get involved commenting on the various topics. Things are fairly slow right now. Feel free to make comments and get involved.......This is your forum, for your benefit...Ed F.

I think we need to start brainstorming together on this.
What can be done to promote this group and get a few more racers flying?
Being in Atlanta, there is a huge population of professional pilots and our local airport is a true 'grass roots stick and rudder' kind of field (PeachState Aerodrome GA2). I'm quite certain that if there is interest anywhere, I should be able to recruit 2 or 3 from around here?
Just a recycled idea, Sun-N-Fun sent me about 20 posters last fall and I distributed one at every new airport I flew to, from Idaho to Atlanta! I don't know if that got any more people to go to the show this year, but I think it was a great way to spread the word. Does anyone have the ability, or know someone creative enough, to produce a nice Supervee Air Sports poster? This could be sent out as a .pdf and printed by each of us to reduce cost. If printed on high quality paper (or photo quality paper) it could be presentable enough to get attention on airport bulletin boards.
I will think of a few more ideas, hopefully this one will get some sparks flying around here

Hi Joe, All good comments. Jeff is a whiz at doing things like this. I have some creative talents as well. The only problem here is time, and other commitments. I know Jeff is very busy, and I would hesitate to ask him to take on an ounce more work. For over 8 years I have tried to keep the Formula Vee fire burning. For me, FV became 'Supervee Air Sports' when I got little to no response with FV, from enthusiasts and former members..... I conducted Oshkosh forums that were poorly attended for years. Today we have a small group of enthused people, but we need a large group. I have written about team building, regional representation, and group efforts. It starts at home. For me, I live in an area with little to no true homebuilding enthusiasm. Meaning...Kit planes abound, but not scratch building a racer so much. I find myself trying to help people in geographic areas where more enthusiasm seems apparent. Thats what the Snail Mail 'Supervee Update' newsletter was all about. An old fashioned hard copy that came in the mail to help put fires under people....But, when I send out over 50 of them, with a request that I get feedback, and only about 10% respond with that, I have to wonder if I am using the right medium, or techniques to instill and promote Supervee growth. Getting a couple people to start hanging around your hangar is a must, and will develop your crew, or core group, to send the message. ACTIVITY BREEDS ACTIVITY. South of me about 75 miles is an ex-military airport with a great layout for a Supervee competition. It is Barnwell, S.C. The airport manager is a true homebuilder, who is receptive, along with his airport board, to letting us have a challenge competition there. I could say that if we had the airplanes, we could have a competition there fairly easily. I am part of the problem when it comes to the 'airplanes'.......I have two FV/Supervee Aircraft 75% done, but zero time and zero money right now to do anything on them to bring them to completion. I have even thought of selling one of them to a person or persons who would finish it for competition purposes... Joe, Keep your enthusiasm up. We all need to work together, bit by bit, to get this going. I am probably less than 3 hours by car from you. We can get together later this year and see what happens. I have ability, information, and some photos of racers that could be put into a hard flyer for distribution. With Oshkosh 7 weeks away, My booth airplanes not ready, and the re-start of the Sport Aviation Association, which I am heading up, I know that the next couple months will be a blur........Ed

Update.......June came and went. Oshkosh came and went. It is now a few days from December first, and I see that some time can now be spent on my racers. I will try to keep working thru the winter, even if it is only one day a week. Life is too short to sit around and daydream about what 'could' happen .... I will also put together a 'short/condensed' Supervee Update for snail mail distribution, to the people who are still on the mailing list. The 'Sport Aviation Association' takes a good bit of my spare time, but I am definately going to sift off some time each week for 'Supervee Air Sports' as well......Let's get going on our racers!!!....Ed Fisher

If ya like I could set up and run a Facebook and twitter page promoting supervee. In my opinion that would be one of the best ways to spread the word in this tech-savy word :-)

I'm working on a friend of mine up in Michigan, he is a racer at heart and loves to tinker, hopefully with continued encouragement I can get him involved. Could be a good match for one of the planes in Ed's inventory!
I think a FB page would be good, we need some great photos and videos to build interest. It is difficult to introduce someone new to this with no links to share. Of course we need more flying airplanes to take photos and videos of!

I keep reading about old FV videos that members have. I know it is a pain to convert them but in VHS/Beta format they will fade away(literally). I know of the two FV vids on YouTube but that's really it for the public to see. YouTube is a place where I like to look, usually unsuccessfully, for DIY, mechanical stuff. Sure there is stuff there but typically not to my nerdiness level. Posting info about our racers on there would be yet one more avenue of exposure. Heck, even pics of period racers are relatively rare on the web. I would love to hear what type of media you all have about FV or your own planes. Many flew but only the top contenders at the ending years of the class are represented on the official site. There has to be more for those hungry among us. Dave Kansas City

Dave, I am the same way, youtube is an addiction for me when it comes to aviation videos, or anything for that matter! I have scoured the internet looking for FV info, images, videos. But like you said, there is only a couple racing videos on there. I scan the Sonerai site several times a day, and even as much movement there is on that page, a search for videos is not that promising after you have seen the 20 or 30 that are out there. In the technological society we live in today, with the affordable price of digital cameras, you would think there would be more videos to watch. Don't get me wrong, I still watch the same ones over and over again, and they motivate me to get my plane going again!
I am with Ed on the principle that activity breeds activity. Unfortunately we are in an era where cheap thrills are had by the younger and older generations on the ground, and aviation is a real niche group that is sparsely situated. I am all for getting together with others and helping build/support aircraft or events, but with being in school to get my A&P, along with working full time (which we were unfortunately put on mandatory 6 days a week for most of the summer), I have little time to devote to my own efforts of flying. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, for me anyways. I will be finished up with school this summer, I just got a new plane that is pretty much flying, AND I now have my own hangar to work on it...plus room for others! ;-) So hopefully I can help with other things around here, if not just being an active member that can help to get others interested. In the big picture, the economy seems to be looking up, general aviation seems to be picking up steam, and a lot of smart people are interested in open-source projects that help keep the cost down on a lot of things in the aviation world. I look forward to seeing things move along, so far they have since my last time on this forum over a year ago!

Jared, Thanks for your enthusiasm. Where in N. C. are you? In N.C., S.C., and Georgia, we have 6 people who own Supervee projects. Regionally, when enough are finished, we could meet at a central location and possibly have a demonstration. The people at the Barnwell, S.C., airport are interested in hearing my sales pitch. They told me that when we are ready, they would entertain holding an event. I will be applying for forum time for this years Oshkosh…...…..Ed

Ed, I'm in Greensboro, about a 4 hour drive to the airport in Barnwell. Wish I has to money to buy one of those Supervee projects, but getting my plane put me a little over budget for a bit. Maybe next year I can get something in the works though, will be working a ton of overtime most of this year and maybe even more when school is done in May! Looked at that Airport on Google maps, that would be awesome to set up an exhibition race!!!
