Dave, Have you been able to find someone that can build your prop extension cone? The guy I thought I had, doesn't really want to do it.

Neil, Fortunately mine came with the cone and extension. I had to make a prop hub and I'd prefer a new extension shaft as the pilot bearing inner race in the cone has about .001 slop with the shaft. There was no real grooving on the shaft(300hrs reported) so it wasn't "that" bad but... Was advised to fly it first to see if I even like it then investigate building a new shaft. S.J.'s prototype cone was rolled steel with rear flange and front plate welded. That would be more doable IMO and needn't be as thick. He might have changed to a cast alloy cone later IIRC from seeing it but I'll have to check my pics. Dave

Just check my photos. Steve's appears to have remained a welded cone - not cast. Dave

I got my cowling mocked up on the left side and center but need to finish the right. Had to pull off the mocked up engine block in order to put in a couple of nut plates close to the motor mount near the firewall. Hope to tackle the engine this winter but have been sidelined by house repair(wood rot and painting) that just can't wait any more and a recent vacation in Europe. Now that we are back I about have the house to a stopping point for winter and hope to get back on the V Witt during the cold months. Anyone else making plans post them in your thread. Dave

I thought Steve Wittman's cone was welded aluminum, not steel?

You are probably right - didn't look too closely even though I've photographed it in some detail twice! My point was that it was not a cast piece despite having them made for sale.

I have seen the cast cones, can't remember if it was on Jim Vliet's V-Witt #33, or on #7 Mr. Smiley...I do know that they did exist.

Fnished the cowling fabrication but still need to do some fiberglass radiusing of the nose bowl air intakes. Not liking the sharp edges. Needed the sheet metal done before I could again remove the wings for final fabric. Been slow due to the cold Wx but getting a little done again. Dave

We do. I'm not on FB anymore and that appears to be the preferred media. I need less social media and more building cool things!

Dave, I appreciate your enthusiasm, and the quality work on the V-Witt. I wish more people would help get this racing / competition going. Lately I feel as if I am pushing a rope.

I think maybe it's best to pursue what you personally want to pursue. Waiting for others is more and more becoming a source of disappointment. For me it is a challenge. Few care about much beyond their screens today.
