JoeB,
I think you can cut some weight, and make some extra money on the scrap copper!
As far as the wing goes, I agree with Ed. When Vernon added about three square ft of area to the Renegade it too was faster around the pylons and had a better rate of climb. The roll rate was slightly less though.
Thanks for posting, Lex

Lots going on, just not too much on the S1 in the last week or so. I posted on Sonerai.net that I pulled and stripped the panel, this project all started because the wiring was a complex mess and I just kept going when disassembling. I am now trying to decide which route I will be going there. I'd really like to reduce total weight by using an engine management system, rather than all the mechanical instruments. It would help but it is also a lot of money to spend in possibly the wrong areas. We'll see Also waiting for a FAA registration issue that is causing a slight delay, seller should have it worked out soon and then I can start the re-registration process over to me. I'm realizing that the Airventure Cup race is highly unlikely this year but my Culver Cadet is flying quite well (and Airventure Cup has a production class under 130hp that I could run it in). Might be good to get some experience, plus I'd like to meet Jeff (and some other folks) face to face. Oh, and I'm trying to finish up a PA20 project...

Thanks for the update. Plug away at it , a bit at a time. If you look at the whole picture, it can be overwhelming. I agree, with only four weeks till the AV Cup race, There's not much time to get it flying, and get comfortable with it. Its better to take your time and get a comfort zone with it.....

Still plugging away, no big news to share but I'll keep this forum active with updates! The Sonerai registration issue is now resolved so I can start my paperwork process with the FAA now, that is good. I continue to strip the S1 down, making my plans for the rewiring and new panel install. I think I have decided to go with the MGL XTreme EFIS which will also provide the engine data. It will be lightweight, provide all the features I could ever want, and more. I'm looking for some weight saving ideas along the way here. It currently has 5/8" gear but I have 1/2" as well, does anyone know the difference in weight? Pros/Cons of each? At the point the fuselage is at, I may continue the inspection with a full strip, paint, recover and paint. But that thought has only crossed my mind and the decision will have to wait until after the Piper is completed. I may not feel like another big project. Progress on the Piper is going well, I ordered the paint from Stewart Systems today! Hope to have it back in the air soon. Well, that's all for now. If anyone wants to come by the hangar there is plenty to do around here!

Covering a Sonerai 1 fuselage thakes practically no time at all. Other than putting a show finish on one, a person with all the materials and knowledge could recover, and bring a fuselage up thru silver in a weekend.....Ed

The Sonerai.net site has archives for the wedge gear mounting for the sonerai One....Do not recall any info on the Sonerai two gear mounting....Ed

Hellllp!!!!!! I am confused.......I did give the correct answer....The Sonerai 2 uses no special tricks to mount up the gear...That answer is for Matt..... Sonerai 1- N283SX is a Sonerai One, built by Glenn Bumpous, then owned by a Tim Fosdick, and now owned by JoeB..... The Sonerai 1 uses aluminum wedges to run the gear at a zero lift line, perpendicular to the top Longeron. To further confuse the issue, I bolted my gear on backwards, to move the axle centerline a tad more aft. I see in the Sonerai.net Picture Gallery, it looks like Sonerai 1 N283SX, has the gear on backwards already, but does not appear to have the wedges......maybe I am wrong....Ed

Ed,
Appreciate the feedback - thought i was missing something!
I got my straps made up locally. Should get the gear back on this weekend.
I've never raced a plane but hopefully will when done with the restoration.
